With today's competitive game, many players are wondering how to be fit playing golf. There are several elements of golf fitness, and knowing what they are helps a player to develop a workout and fitness routine that will benefit their game as well as their overall health. Once you know the basic requirements of fitness in relation to playing the game of golf, it will be easier for you to develop a specific workout routine to boost your level of fitness for the game of golf as well as the game of life.

When considering how to be fit playing golf, consider the fundamental movements necessary for a good, full, powerful golf swing. One must be strong, limber and have good posture and balance to achieve the golf swing. Therefore, the first thing a player needs to develop is good flexibility. It is important for a golfer to be flexible in the torso area, but they also need flexibility in the arms, hips and legs in order to have a full golf swing.

The next element to consider when wondering how to be fit playing golf is strength. Core strength is the most important element of a powerful golf swing, but strength in the legs, hips, back, arms and shoulders is also important. Not only do these body parts play a huge role in your swing, these strong muscles protect delicate joints from injury during play.

The final consideration while contemplating how to be fit playing golf is posture and balance. While much of this is born in us naturally, there are exercises that we can do to improve our posture and balance. This is important in a golf work out routine, but can be developed during normal daily activities, as well.

Pay more attention to how you sit at your desk, stand while waiting in line or bend when picking something up off of the floor. Consider the muscles you are using during these tasks, but also think about the muscles that are not working during these activities. Some of these muscles may be weak from lack of use. Learn to exercise these muscles during your workout routine for golf, and they will become stronger, improving your overall posture and balance.

When sitting, do not allow your shoulders to hunch. Keep your abdominal muscles tucked in and avoid slouching. When standing, keep your knees slightly bent, just enough to keep them from locking. Hold in your abdominal muscles and open up your chest. Keep your shoulders back and do not allow them to slouch. When bending, use more of your leg strength and less bending of the back.

These movements may seem awkward at first, just as the golf swing itself. But as you strengthen them during your workout routine and regular use, they become stronger and the motions do not feel as abnormal. Good posture is a sign of fitness and confidence.
